A study suggests that jamun has a potential to produce safer medicines for the treatment of diabetes. The other studies show that seeds of jamun could reduce the levels of blood sugar by 30%.

This plant has several valuable compounds such asmalic acid, gallic acid, oxalic acid and tannins that provide it various properties such as antimalarial, antibacterial and gastroprotective properties.
